Addicks boss delighted to see loaned man from Norwich make his comeback + positive news on midfielder analysis – South London News

Akin Famewo made his return as a player for Charlton Athletic today – manager Lee Bowyer said it would take a few days to fully assess the defender’s chances of being available against Gillingham on Saturday.

The loaned Norwich City center-back has only appeared twice since late October due to injuries.

But Famewo clocked 62 minutes for the Addicks’ U23s in their 4-3 loss to Bristol City this afternoon.

Charlton kept his clean sheet in last weekend’s 2-0 win at Rochdale, easing the pressure slightly for immediate defensive reinforcements.

“We’ll see how it is tomorrow and Thursday,” Bowyer said. “He got 60 minutes today which is the most important thing and did well. That’s if he gets a reaction tomorrow or Thursday.

“He didn’t come out injured. I think the next 48 hours are important. Of course we want to bring him back into the fold but again we have to weigh what’s best, there are still a lot of games to go. If we push it back too soon it will crash and we will all regret it. We have to deal with it the right way. “

Conor Washington will join full practice Thursday.

Jake Forster-Caskey had a scan on his hamstrings but it came back quite clear.

“The two did a little light session away from the group and [Jayden] Stockley, because he had a little bit of tension somewhere, ”Bowyer said. “I expect all three to be in the main group on Thursday.”
