TJ Pingel, Lea Anderson, Kim Shimkat, Bill Shimkat, Lisa Shimkat and Ed Shimkat Jr. dress up as Harry Potter Quidditch players at a previous Community Health Center Masquerade fundraiser.

Costumes, comedians and cocktails will take over the Shimkat Motor Co. showroom next weekend for the Fort Dodge Halloween Masquerade Community Health Center’s annual fundraiser.

The October 30 event will feature comedian Steve Byrne, who appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel”, “Conan”, “The Late Late Show” and “The show tonight.”

“We are excited to host the event again this year – in 2020 we have gone completely virtual for our fundraiser,” said Regina Suhrbier, outreach services coordinator for the CSC. “This year, we again hosted a fun costumed event in conjunction with hosting part of our online auction.”

The social evening will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by entertainment and an auction. Tickets are $ 45 in advance or $ 50 at the door. There will also be a cash bar and a dessert auction.

Tickets are available at Shimkat Motor Co., 3126 Fifth Ave. S .; at CHC, 126 N. 10th St .; or online at

“Our mission is to provide quality health services to all”, said Suhrbier. “This fundraiser will help us raise funds for new equipment that will help us in our mission. “

CSC CEO Renae Kruckenberg noted that the CSC is a non-profit clinic and “Every dollar goes to a good cause.

The funds will be used to purchase a Butterfly IQ ultrasound machine.

“The Butterfly IQ will allow us to perform ultrasound assessments on everything from the lungs and heart to the bladder and vascular system” Kruckenberg said. “Having this on site will reduce the need for patients to have to travel elsewhere for imaging.”

The CHC aims to remove barriers to healthcare, Suhrbier explained. These obstacles could be transport, finance, insurance and work leave.

“The more services we provide, the easier it is for our patients to take care of their health. “ she said. “When we can provide what they need, they only need to travel once or be absent from work once to come visit us. “

Fundraising will begin on Monday, when many auction items will be posted for online public auctions throughout the week. The online auction will end on Saturday and the items can be found at

Raffle tickets will also be available online, at CHC and Shimkat Motor Co. Raffle tickets cost $ 25 each or five for $ 100. Prizes include a $ 1,000 Visa gift card, $ 800 Shimkat prize, and a $ 500 grocery gift card to Hy-Vee or Fareway.
