Pennsylvania is full of natural wonders – from the well-known and loved ones to little surprises, like nameless waterfalls, hidden in nature. Pine Creek Gorge arguably earns props as one of the state’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Known as the Grand Canyon of PA, it spans 47 miles, is a mile wide, and reaches 1,450 feet deep at its deepest point. Both of these trails lead to some of the best views of Pine Creek Gorge in Pennsylvania.
Leonard Harrison State Park and Colton Point State Park both offer sensational views of the Pine Creek Gorge. However, these trails will take you to Leonard Harrison State Park.
While All Trails rates Turkey Path moderate and Overlook Trail easy, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources rates them both as difficult. Ultimately, it depends on you and your skill level.
The Turkey Path Trail is a two mile out and back trail that will take you to the bottom of Pine Creek Gorge. Be prepared to face difficult, steep, narrow and sometimes slippery terrain.
You’ll probably want to be in good shape if you follow this trail steeped in natural beauty, including highlighting several waterfalls along the way down.
Once back at the top of the canyon, you might want to follow the 1 mile Overlook Trail. Hikers estimate the trail takes around half an hour to complete.
Well-maintained trail is popular with families with children and dogs, and you don’t want to forget your camera. It’s especially pretty during peak foliage.
Both trails can get incredibly busy, especially during peak fall foliage, so keep that in mind before you go.
