Mikel Arteta has started calling on Martin Odegaard more regularly and the fans have appreciated what they have seen so far.
After signing a loan from Real Madrid in the closing days of the January transfer window, Odegaard was given a few Premier League cameos.
His first start came in last weekend’s 4-2 victory over Leeds United, where the Norwegian midfielder impressed, and he again had an opportunity early on in the Europa League.
While Arsenal still have their work cut out for them following their 1-1 draw in the first leg against Benfica, Odegaard’s performance has drawn attention.
Fans were originally concerned about what Odegaard’s signing would mean for Emile Smith Rowe, but the fact that the pair have both started together in the last two games is an encouraging sign.
While Thursday’s game wasn’t the best for Smith Rowe, who conceded a second-half penalty for handball, Odegaard’s display got fans talking on social media.
The 22-year-old found plenty of space in the game, especially in the first half, although frustratingly this was often picked up by his teammates.
His passing skills on the ball continued to impress, as did his throwback to help defensively – something fans were regularly frustrated by Mesut Ozil, who didn’t contribute much on the ball.
All signs are positive and fans are hopeful that Odegaard will continue to shine over the next few weeks.
