Ryan Sessegnon provides update on injury and progress at Hoffenheim on loan from Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ryan Sessegnon provided an update on his thigh injury as he looks to return to action this week for loan club Hoffenheim.

The 20-year-old was loaned to Germany last summer with Jose Mourinho wanting him to deepen his experience as a left-back or full-back, with weak minute opportunities at Spurs after the finish by Sergio Reguilon of Real Madrid. .

Sessegnon has continuously come to life, securing a veritable streak of games for the Bundesliga team, making 16 appearances for the German side, scoring twice and making two assists for his teammates.

However, a thigh injury then ruled him out of most matches for 12th-ranked Hoffenheim in 2021, missing seven consecutive Bundesliga games.

Despite missing this weekend’s 2-2 draw at Borussia Dortmund, Sessegnon has spoken of his progress on loan and his upcoming return from injury.

“I’m learning more about myself as a person and as a player,” he told Hoffenheim social media.

“It was a great opportunity. In a nutshell, it was hectic, because of course I played games regularly and I think in most games I played just as well, with a few games less well.

“I think I was playing well more consistently and then of course the injury happened and I’ve missed six games now.”

On that thigh injury, Sessegnon added: “I’m progressing really well and I think the next time you should see me on the pitch maybe next week, hopefully in the Europa League.”
