TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A sports official from Taoyuan City was found dead on a mountain 12 days after he went missing during a hike, reports said on Friday (December 24th).

The 37-year-old man, nicknamed Lee (李), reached the summit of Zhongyangjianshan on his own at 2:30 a.m. on December 12, but did not return home the next day, triggering a search of the border area. between Taichung City and Hualien County. With an altitude of 3,705 meters, the mountain is on the list of the 100 peaks of Taiwan.

A drone found his body 80m above a ravine, but since the location is inaccessible on foot, a helicopter will have to remove it when the weather improves, CNA reported.

After the search began on December 13, Taichung firefighters located the site of Lee’s last phone call and mobilized helicopters and three rescue teams totaling 27 to help locate him. At 12:30 p.m. on Friday, a drone they had launched located his body, but in a place that rescuers could not reach.

Due to the difficult location, the teams prepared to return to the base and relied on a helicopter to remove Lee’s body, but the operation was not immediately possible due to bad weather near Zhongyangjianshan. .
