UVic News – University of Victoria

We are saddened to see that the situation in Iran continues to deteriorate. We are closely monitoring the situation at Sharif University of Technology and others in Iran and are deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of students, staff and faculty there.

Many members of the UVic community have deep ties to Iran, including ties to family, friends and colleagues living in Iran today. You are all in our thoughts and we are here to support you. We ask everyone in our UVic community to be kind, to listen, and to learn more about ways to help your peers who may be struggling. This can and should include the flexibility to meet their ceremonial and community needs, and to mourn and support others in their lives, as news from home can have a profound effect on their mental and physical health.

In Canada, we often take freedom of speech and expression for granted and it is important to remember that students and citizens of other countries do not enjoy these same rights. You’re not alone; the UVic community is there for you and we have on-campus supports for students, staff and faculty who may need it.
